View Full Version : Do you think this will turn out like stick RPG 2?

Well, I'm talking about time. Xgen is known for exagerating, and getting our hopes up, do you think this will happen?

1 month? It is too soon to not happen.

I think it'll come out about the same time SRPG2 comes out.

So is that a yes, or a no? Personally, I say yes.

Xgen has a great formula for success.
release their first games and gain much attention
announce incredible sounding sequel to keep everyone coming here hoping for it.
work on other games while we stick around for SRPG2

Well, they actually have a release date, and they have movies of the gameplay. Why wouldn't it be released?
Xgen isn't really known for exagerating. They never said when Stick Rpg 2 will come out, they just inform you of the newest designs.

Google Duke Nukem Forever. They bought out screenshots within like a year, yet here we are 10 years later. Offtopic- Notice the initials are "DNF" which also stand for "Did Not Finish".
I think this game will turn out to take longer than they said.

I don't think so, you look at Stick Arena, it was released about a month after it was announced because they got it basically done before announcing it.

About the part with the gameplay: They have screen shots of SRPG2. They have gameplay of ballistick.
Sorry to say, but I think I just ruined your theory.

Nah Sky said it was 90% complete. Just check the Pillage the Village thread at the top.

I ruined my theory? I never said anything about screenshots, did I? I also wanted to make the points of "skye just said it's 90% competele" and "stick arena was a good expection" but that was already said.

if SA was an exception, what about motherload? That wasn't announced until a month or two before its release and it was released

Seeing as I'm the coder for PtV, the game is sitting right in front of me and I'm currently uploading a playable build for Skye to demo in Seattle next week - I'm going to say "no" to that.
Unless XGen gets sucked into a black hole and leaves me alone in this world.

Well, given what's happened in the past when they announced a totally saucesome project... *glares at the doomed Cinderfall site*

Understandable.
As I've said elsewhere though, I've never been on those projects, so cant speak for them and know nothing about what happened. But as for the projects I have been on over the years (which are countless) I've rarely ever seen them not completed.
I'm not interested in seeing my hard work wasted :)

Just watch out for those black holes. They have a tendency to spontaneously appear when XGen is close to finishing a product.
Meh. The only thing that really tweaked me about that stuff was that we never got any sort of explanation, or even an official statement. It was just "Release in 10 days!" and then four years of utter silence.

Err.. When I said expection I meant Stick Arena was a good example of a game not post-pond. You're only adding on to what I said. And I wouldn't know anything about motherload really, I wasn't here at the time. But like I said, another good example.

We're not talking about Duke Nukem Forever. That's two separate companies. I could also point out hundreds of games that were on time.

I don't think this will turn out like StickRPG 2. Mainly because StickRPG 2 required massive amounts of coding and art. StickRPG 2 turned into a giant pile of work which sucked the fun out of making it. And after 3 years the whole thing must've seemed almost impossible to Stu and Skye. So the XGen team turned their attention and original ideas to PTV.
Also with StickRPG 2 and Cinderfall Complete nobody likes working on old projects and they probably wanted to start a fresh, new game.

You are assuming that XGen only worked on SRPG2 right up to PtV?
And no, PtV is not like the SRPG series, you can tell from the trailer. It did however require a lot of coding and art.

Kind of. I assumed they were already thinking about PtV and playing around with ideas as well.

So does XGen even work on their own games? Or do they just hire other people out to do the work and sit back and... uhh... Be lazy and enjoy tons of money from ads and their amazing CPM?

XGen has worked very hard and done a great job on PtV. This is 100% an XGen title and they deserve a lot of credit for their creativity and hard work. We've all worked together to bring you this title.
I should also point out that a lot of the art was done by Taylor, one of the teams newer members who was introduced to the forums recently. He's an excellent artist, so if you like the characters make sure to commend him. Both Robyn and him put a lot of thought into the visuals for you guys, and it has evolved a lot since the beginning of the project.

Out of idle curiosity, what amount of the game was done by the *original* XGen team?

JJ, what parts of the DYC code did you use? Is the code extremely similar, or did you build it completely ground up?

None whatsoever, its built from the ground up. DYC is pretty old, when Flash coding was more limited. PtV was built using more practical OOP techniques.

I have a lot of faith in the Xgen team. I think StickRPG was just a tiring concept for them. Sometimes projects have to be abandoned and picked up later.
This won't be abandoned. Especially seeing as we have someone who is obviously dedicated (JJ). I'm not saying the other team members aren't dedicated, just that they don't really spend a whole lot of time actually posting and replying on the forums (I'm fairly certain a few of them lurk.)
A lot goes on behind the scenes at XGen...
Design, Project Managent, Programming, Concept Art, Production Art, Writing, Audio, Quality Assurance, Operations, and Business Development are just a few of the tasks required to bring PtV to life.
Yes; when we're in the midst of a dev cycle I tend to keep my head down, although I still browse the forums daily.

You know what you need to improve productivity, Skye? You need buzz words. You already have biz dev, but why not saying 'flames' instead of 'flash games?' Combine words, make em up, whatever- but cutting out five or six letters will make the next game come out 3 months early!
Just out of curiosity, when did the Xgen team start making PTV?

Not even the creators of a game can predict the date of it's release.
It's teh future!!!

They can easily predict a games release. Barring the small chance that some bug remained dormant they can tell just how long the last bits will take and then say it'll be done a month after that point.

No, you clearly need lessons. You're just typing like an AOLer with a concussion.
Great idea! would become Gredea!
And then you would explain that Gredeas are the magical moments when you think up another spell. Or something like that
PilThAge. Doesn't that look more hip than Pillage The Village?

Would I be shot if I said it sounds like your writing in gibberish?
Not the made-up teenage gibberish that just involves screwing with pronunciation, but the religious, satan has stolen your body, and you are infested with evil, gibberish.
It just sounds dumb. Have you tried saying any of these "words" out loud? I think I'll stick to english and spanish. They are easier to wrap my mind around.
EDIT: I just realized, they actually sound like words you would hear watching a greek religion based movie. Something on Sci-Fi with the old pagan gods on it.
Gredea, Pilthage. They do.

Not yet he won't be saving time. There'll be a bit of a learning curve to it, it will take longer to type those while he's un-used to typing in such a way, but after a week he'll be saving up to ten minutes a day

Also remember, nobody knows how long they have been working on this game. They just got an office so making new games may/can take less time. StickRPG 2 is a massive project and as far as we know, Stu is the only guy who's working on it. So that means the rest of the team is workin' hard on PtV.

Well, I would be more focused working at school or an office rather than at my house. Plus, they probably work longer hours.

As best as I can tell, Stu *is* the only one working on SRPG2, and he's apparently got tons and tons of other things that are higher priority (As in, real jobs.)

This game will be late. But not in years, months.
As best as I can tell, Stu *is* the only one working on SRPG2, and he's apparently got tons and tons of other things that are higher priority (As in, real jobs.) That's right, Stu has really got a lot of things to do, but even if he gets done with his part, then it will still not be 100% done. If I'm not wrong, Stu said that the others (he mentioned Skye) have to finish their jobs if they want to see SRPG2 finally done.
